As some of you may know, a few weeks back I started a new position as Wilson Professor of Social Enterprise at Pace University. It's a great gig; however, ever since it began looking like a real possibility, questions arose as to what to do with this site. Maintain it separately as my own mystery cult? Or just accept the inevitable pull of other work and toss it into the Nile?
So here's what we're going to do. From here on out, this looks to be the last post on BofG.com for the foreseeable future. However, the BofG will nonetheless live on as a vital part of Trexfiles, the hub for everything I'm working on now.
My sacred vow: to post a BofG item at least every Friday, if not more. The first couple are here and here. For folks who want to subscribe to the BofG posts, click here for the new BofG category feed.
And to all you faithful readers, a heavenly thanks. Vale atque ave!
UPDATE: Well, you see how long *that* lasted. I enjoy this site too much, and I've figured out how to integrate it into my agenda at work. As Russell T. Davies is wont to say, "Hooray!"
EXTRA: If you would like to see a particular symbol or piece of spiritual bling on the B of G, leave a comment or drop me a line. Likewise, if you make spiritual jewelry or know someone who does, feel free to send me a catalog or link so we can tell the world!
If you look to either side of the page, you'll see a new feature on the Blingdom of God . . .
That's right--from here on out the Blingdom of God will not exist on posts alone. Besides talking about trends and symbols and fun stuff in the news, we'll also be assembling links to sellers of spiritual bling around the globe.
The lists are small now, but keep coming back because they're going to grow like a mustard seed. If you know of a shop or designer that you would like to see listed here, send me an email & if it's appropriate, I'll post the link. And if you patronize a shop from this page, be sure to let them know that the Blingdom of God sent you. You'll be glad you did!
As you may have notice, reloading this page gives you another randomly selected image of bling in the header. Pretty neat, huh? Pretty soon, clicking on any header will take you right to an entry with a few basic details about the item in question, plus a link to the merchant or info-site where I found the link. For the first few days this site is in operation, however, some of the links will take you only to the merchant.
Two thousand years ago, a man that many believe to be God incarnate was crowned with thorns, whipped with shards of glass and cruelly hung out to die.
So who wouldn't commemorate that by wearing a 24 carat gold cross with diamond studs?
This is a site dedicated to the fusion of faith and fashion--not just in Christianity, but all forms of religion and metaphysical belief. We'll explore the link between adornment and religion in the human mind, the evolution of religious jewelry throughout history, legal issues, where to buy stuff and, of course, CELEBRITIES!
So whether you're Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Bahai, Wiccan or just simply Divine, hit refresh a few times everyday and watch more bling appear in the heavens above.
